>Bad Habits and a Comfy Bed

>There’s an old proverb that says “Bad habits are like a comfortable bed. Easy to get into, hard to get out of.” As Homer Simpson would say, “Doh!”

Bob was wondering again why he is not losing weight. He is still under the belief that if we own work out stuff, read work out books, own low calorie cookbooks and subscribe to all the health magazines that we should be well on our way to healthier and skinnier. Wouldn’t that be nice if just owning the stuff really did it?

I have running shoes. I have running outfits. Matching running outfits. I bought them at the end of last summer when I was walk/running regularly. And they did inspire me. I walk/ran every day for about three months. Then the weather got cold and it was much nicer for me to stay in my bed, under the covers, nice and warm. Despite the fact that we have Wii exercise that can be done indoors. Nevermind the P90X that is downstairs. Forget the fact that my sister-in-law teaches yoga and lets me join her classes at a discount. And the garage has an elliptical. It was relatively warm out there almost until Christmas. And lets not think about the weights and rubber band stretchy things that are kept way down in the basement.

I have several workout magazines touting easy workouts for indoors. I have many health and exercise websites saved on my computer and I actually read the magazines and the websites. I even tell Bob how he can improve his eating habits. Often. Ask me anything, I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to how you should/could incorporate exercising into any schedule or how to eat a healthy low calorie meal, snack, appetizer or dessert.

We went out for breakfast after church yesterday. Bob very proudly announces that this meal will count towards breakfast and lunch. Today is the day he is going to start making healthier choices and skipping lunch will be the first wise move of the day. Well he stuck to it. Later in the afternoon we went to a movie with our daughter Ellen. We stopped in at Walgreens to purchase our drinks as they are so much cheaper than buying at the theater. M&M’s were on sale. I got a soda but Bob went healthy and purchased Gatorade! Another step in the right direction…sort of negated by the M&M purchase but I didn’t say this out loud because I didn’t want to discourage him. At the show we got popcorn. First batch with butter (my preference) that the three of us promptly ate before the movie even started. Bob ran to the front to get the refill without butter (Bob’s preference). He thinks getting the free refill is the only way to justify the cost of this snack and gets it even if it is just he and I going to the show. Ellen and I were full so, well, let’s just say it’s not really a bargain to get a free refill if you don’t eat the whole thing.

Maybe today is a better day to get out of bed?

    >Bob just read this post and wants to know if popcorn is good for you. He then googled calories in movie theater popcorn. It said medium size popcorn and drink is the same as eating three quarter pounders with twelve pats of butter.
